Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to address the task by reporting data from the charts. However, it fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends, which is a requirement for Band 6 and above. The data selection is somewhat mechanical, listing figures chronologically rather than highlighting significant comparisons or key features. For instance, the report lacks a summary of the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. Furthermore, there are inaccuracies in data reporting, such as the mention of '10 in refrigerator' for 1920, which does not clearly align with the provided visual information. To improve, focus on identifying the overall trend (e.g., the steady rise in appliance ownership versus the decline in housework hours) and group data logically rather than year-by-year.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inaccurate (e.g., 'After that', 'In 1980'). The paragraphing is inconsistent, with a very short introductory paragraph and a dense, cluttered body paragraph. The lack of clear signposting makes it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of trends over time. To improve, use linking words to connect ideas more fluidly and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus, such as one for appliance ownership and one for the time spent on housework.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on the same phrasing ('percentage of', 'number of hours'). There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'dsta' for data, 'vaccum' for vacuum, and 'percentile' used incorrectly to mean percentage. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To improve, learn specific terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'plateau', 'significant increase', or 'gradual decline', and ensure you use the correct terminology for the data being presented.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('washing machine and vaccum cleaner was'), incorrect prepositions ('in case of per week'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often marred by punctuation errors and awkward phrasing. For example, 'The percentage of refrigerator was maximum as camopare to washing machine' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practice using articles and prepositions correctly. Reducing the number of errors will significantly improve the readability of your writing.
