Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state the refrigerator ownership started at 0% in 1920, whereas the chart shows it starting at 0% but the vacuum cleaner starting at 30%. You also claim the refrigerator exceeded the vacuum cleaner in 1990, but the lines cross much earlier. Furthermore, the final sentence regarding housework hours is incomplete ('reach at hours per week'). While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in data interpretation and the incomplete final sentence limit the task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'IN DETAIL, IN TERM OF PERCENTAGE OF HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES' is an awkward transition. The punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing and capitalization (e.g., 'HOWEVER ,THE NUMBER'). While there is a clear overall progression, the lack of control over linking words and punctuation makes the flow feel disjointed at times. Improving the use of referencing and punctuation would significantly enhance the readability of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but contains frequent spelling errors, such as 'REFRIGRATOR', 'VACCUM', 'FALLOW', and 'MODETELY'. These errors are distracting and occasionally impede the reader's understanding. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'ownership', 'surge', and 'constant', the range is limited and the repetition of basic verbs like 'stood at' and 'increased' suggests a need for more variety. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accurate spelling and incorporating a wider range of synonyms to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'dipped'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies on simple sentence structures with frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('WASHING MACHINE OWNERSHIP BEGIN', 'REFRIGRETER OWNWERSHIP ESCALATE'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. The punctuation is also poor, with spaces placed before commas and periods, and the text is written entirely in uppercase, which is inappropriate for formal writing. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation structures prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
