Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to summarize the charts but fails to accurately report the data. There are significant factual errors, such as the claim that refrigerator usage ceased after 1980, which contradicts the visual data. The overview is too brief and lacks a clear connection between the two charts. Key features, such as the specific percentages or the clear trends in housework hours, are not sufficiently highlighted or supported by the data. The response lacks the analytical depth required for a Band 6 or higher, as it misinterprets the provided information, leading to a failure to fully address the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as the use of 'Surprisingly' to introduce a factual error. The progression of ideas is disjointed, particularly in the transition between the appliance data and the housework hours. While there is an attempt at an introduction and body paragraphs, the logical flow is hindered by the lack of clear comparisons and the inaccurate reporting of the trends. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making the relationship between the data points difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'number', 'percentage', and 'appliances'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing trends or data comparisons. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'comparative data' or 'upcoming year', which do not accurately reflect the context of the charts. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the occasional misuse of terms prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'gradual decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but these are frequently marred by grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the year 1920'), subject-verb agreement ('there were same proportion'), and awkward phrasing ('there was no usage of Refrigerator'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary capitalization of words like 'Refrigerator' and 'Electric'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. A greater focus on sentence structure and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
