Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the statement that the washing machine had the highest number in 1920 is inaccurate based on the provided data, and the description of the refrigerator starting at 0 percent is correct but lacks a broader comparison of the rates of change. The overview is present but lacks precision in summarizing the key trends. To improve, ensure data points are accurately transcribed and focus on comparing the relationship between the rise in appliances and the fall in housework time.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'on other side' and 'decard after decard'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While there is an attempt to link ideas, the transitions between sentences are not always smooth, and the referencing (e.g., 'on that graph') is occasionally unclear. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'decard' (decade), 'decries' (decreases), and 'ppercents'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but there is a lack of precision and flexibility. Phrases like 'climb top' and 'users number' are non-standard. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to trends (e.g., 'surged', 'plummeted', 'gradual increase') and ensure correct spelling and collocation of technical terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'users of electrical machine increases'), incorrect preposition usage, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing spaces after commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures limits the score. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
