Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all parts of the task, identifying the main trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. You have successfully selected key features, such as the refrigerator's growth and the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you mention the washing machine declined to 65% in 1980, but the graph shows a different trend. Additionally, the description of the refrigerator's increase as 'almost 100% increase' is slightly confusing; it is clearer to state it rose from near 0% to nearly 100%. Overall, the information is well-selected, though precision in data interpretation needs improvement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs focusing on appliances and housework, and a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'furthermore', 'in contrast', and 'consequently' to link sentences. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by mechanical errors and repetitive phrasing. The transition between the two charts could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets, which helps the reader follow the analysis. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the second charts') is grammatically accurate.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'peaked', 'downtrend', 'drastic', and 'surged'. However, there are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'usuage' (usage), 'vacuem' (vacuum), 'refrigetor' (refrigerator), 'intailly' (initially), and 'steepiest' (steepest). These errors are noticeable but do not impede overall communication. To improve, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and word formation. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary, the repetition of 'usuage' limits the sophistication of your lexical range. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with punctuation (e.g., unnecessary commas after 'illustrates' and 'shows') and subject-verb agreement. For example, 'washing machine was' should be 'washing machines were' to match the plural context. There are also errors in tense consistency and word order, such as 'the second charts shows'. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the data. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent use of articles and pluralization.
