Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task, including the trends for both appliances and housework. You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons. However, the introductory sentence is grammatically incomplete, and the overview is slightly disjointed. While you have included data points, some of the descriptions of the trends are slightly inaccurate (e.g., stating the washing machine ownership 'surged' when it actually fluctuated). To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview provides a clearer summary of the overall trends rather than just listing individual appliance movements. The data selection is generally good, but ensure that the relationship between the rise in appliances and the decline in housework is explicitly highlighted as a key feature.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'While', and 'After that' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the second paragraph starts with 'Overall', but the sentence structure within that paragraph is a bit repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the decline in housework and the rise in appliances could be more smoothly integrated to improve the overall progression of the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories of data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proprietorship', 'proportion', and 'plunged'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'amount of period' is unnatural; 'time spent' would be better. 'Proprietorship' is a bit formal and less common in this context than 'ownership'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'second to marked' instead of 'second to mark'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations for describing data trends, such as 'a steady increase' or 'a significant decline', and ensure that vocabulary is used in the correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. The first paragraph contains a sentence fragment: 'While the house work per week decreased dramatically throughout the period.' This lacks a main clause. There are also errors in verb tense and subject-verb agreement, such as 'it again grown' instead of 'it again grew' and 'was accounted for 40%' (passive voice error). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound.
