Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the ability to fully address the task. While you have provided an introduction and a brief overview, you have failed to provide the necessary detail, data points, or specific comparisons required for a Task 1 response. The analysis is far too brief to cover the main features of the charts. To improve, you must expand your response by describing the trends for each appliance individually, citing specific data points from the charts, and making clear comparisons between the categories over the given time period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into two short paragraphs, which is a start, but the lack of length prevents the development of a coherent structure. There is a basic attempt at an overview, but the transition between the introduction and the summary is abrupt. Because the text is so short, there is little opportunity to demonstrate the use of cohesive devices or logical progression. To improve, ensure you have a clear introduction, a detailed body paragraph (or two), and a concise summary, using linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to connect your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally accurate but very limited due to the brevity of the text. You have used appropriate terms such as 'fluctuations', 'steady rise', and 'sharply', which are relevant to describing data. However, the range is insufficient to demonstrate a higher level of lexical control. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of synonyms and more sophisticated collocations related to trends and data analysis, such as 'a gradual upward trajectory' or 'a significant decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammar is generally accurate in the few sentences provided, with no major errors that impede communication. You have attempted a mix of simple and some slightly more complex structures. However, the limited length means there is not enough evidence to judge your ability to use a wide range of complex grammatical structures accurately. To improve, focus on incorporating more complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses or passive voice constructions, while maintaining the current level of accuracy.
