Student answer (Band 6.0)

The following charts show the difference in electrical appliances possession and the rate of time on usage of household appliances in housework in one nation in from 1920 to 2019.

From the chart we can notice that there was on usage of refrigerator in 1920 which later increased significantly between these years and reached to 100 percent. In case of vacuum cleaner there was constant changes and it also reached to maximum percent in 2019 whereas there used to be maximum use of washing machine which was 40 percent in 1929 which had not been changed that much as it reached to 70 percent only in 2019 and become the least used electrical appliance in comparison. Overall, the value of refrigerator jumped from 0 to 100 which is the highest change in between 1920s and 2019.

From another data, we can notice that the rate of usage of household had been decreasing from 1920 to 2019 as it used to be 50 hours in 7 days which later decreased to only 10 percent in 2019.

In conclusion, the rate of housework per week per household is decreased as the rate of usage of electrical appliances increased significantly in 99 years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the description of the washing machine data is inaccurate, as the chart shows it starting at a higher percentage in 1920 rather than 1929, and the interpretation of the '10 percent' figure for housework hours is confusingly presented. While the overview is present, the report lacks a clear, analytical comparison between the two datasets, such as linking the rise in appliances directly to the reduction in housework time more effectively. The data points are occasionally misread, which limits the accuracy of the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the flow between ideas is sometimes mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'from the chart we can notice'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when transitioning between the two different charts. While the overall progression is discernible, the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the transition between the appliance data and the housework time data feel abrupt rather than integrated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. Phrases like 'constant changes' and 'maximum percent' are imprecise. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'difference in electrical appliances possession' instead of 'ownership' and 'rate of usage of household' instead of 'time spent on housework'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'a significant downward trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'there was on usage of refrigerator' (likely meant 'no usage'), 'reached to 100 percent' (should be 'reached 100 percent'), and 'the rate of housework per week per household is decreased' (should be 'has decreased'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the misuse of prepositions and verb tenses is noticeable throughout the text. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
