Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified the main trends—the increase in appliance ownership and the decrease in housework hours—the analysis is incomplete. The final sentence is cut off mid-word ('comap'), and the data reporting is somewhat mechanical. To improve, ensure you provide a complete overview and include all necessary data points without leaving sentences unfinished. You must also ensure the response length is sufficient to allow for a thorough comparison of the trends presented in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In contrast' and 'Overall', but they are somewhat basic. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the abrupt ending makes the overall flow feel disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, finished thought before moving to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple descriptors like 'sharply' and 'boost' (which is used incorrectly as a verb here). There are also errors in word choice, such as 'ownership households appliance' instead of 'household appliance ownership'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. For example, instead of saying 'was reached', use 'reached a peak of' or 'accounted for'. Expanding your range of synonyms for trends will also help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'number of hours spent by housework' (should be 'on housework'), 'washing machine was reached' (passive voice error), and 'refrigerator was sharply boost' (tense and verb form error). There is a limited range of complex structures, and the errors in basic sentence construction are noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice when describing data. Proofreading for basic tense consistency will also help reduce the frequency of these errors.
