Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the general upward trend in appliance ownership and the downward trend in housework hours. However, the analysis of the data is inconsistent. For instance, the description of the washing machine is confusing, stating it 'resulted in the lowest percentage' despite also noting '75% of households,' which contradicts the graph. Additionally, the overview is slightly underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are accurately reported and that comparisons between the two graphs are more clearly linked to the overall trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall,' 'Meanwhile,' and 'In comparison' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the description of the washing machine's trend is difficult to follow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal flow within the third paragraph could be improved to better connect the fluctuating data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts at topic-specific language like 'upward trend,' 'fluctuated,' and 'remained constant.' There are some spelling errors, such as 'percenagt' and 'approxiamtely,' and some awkward phrasing, such as 'period of time used doing housework.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Improving spelling and using more sophisticated collocations would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'staring from 1920' (should be 'starting'), 'percentage of household' (should be plural), and 'There was 50 hours' (should be 'There were'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The control of verb tenses is generally acceptable, but more attention to subject-verb agreement and pluralization is needed to improve accuracy.
