Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task, identifying the main trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. You successfully highlight the key features, such as the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. However, the overview is slightly disjointed and could be more clearly articulated. While you mention the trends, some data points are presented in a list-like fashion, which hinders the 'clear overview' requirement for higher bands. To improve, ensure the overview synthesizes the information rather than just listing the appliances. The data is generally accurate, though the phrasing 'one at 40%' is vague.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Furthermore' and 'At the same time', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'one at 40%'). The paragraphing is appropriate, but the transition between the appliance data and the housework data could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that every pronoun has a clear antecedent would help elevate the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'substantially', 'dramatically', and 'dominated'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'washing machine slightly sank' and 'vacuum cleaner substantially swelled'. These choices are not entirely natural in an academic context. While the meaning is clear, the lack of precision in word choice prevents a higher score. Focus on using verbs that accurately describe statistical trends, such as 'declined', 'surged', or 'plateaued', rather than more informal or imprecise alternatives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include missing articles ('the refrigerator'), subject-verb agreement ('refrigerator and vacuum cleaner at same percentage'), and awkward phrasing ('increase in three of appliances'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to the use of articles and prepositions.
