Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified the main trends for the refrigerator, the description of the washing machine and vacuum cleaner is incomplete and cuts off abruptly. To improve, you must ensure all data points are covered and the response is of sufficient length to allow for a full analysis of the trends and comparisons between the appliances and the housework hours. The overview is present but lacks the depth required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'To begin', but the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The lack of a concluding summary or a fully developed body paragraph makes the overall structure feel fragmented. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'showed increase' and 'in whole time period'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'using households' instead of 'doing housework'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more varied verbs and adverbs to describe trends, such as 'surged', 'fluctuated', or 'a gradual decline', and ensure collocations are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('in whole century'), incorrect verb tenses ('refrigerator ownership rapidly increase'), and punctuation errors. These errors occasionally make the text difficult to follow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practising the use of complex sentences with subordinate clauses will also help improve your range and accuracy.
