Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains significant factual inaccuracies. For example, you state the refrigerator 'drastically increase from 50% to 90%', which does not align with the provided data. Furthermore, the description of the washing machine trend is confusing and inaccurate. While you have identified the main trends (increasing appliance ownership and decreasing housework hours), the lack of precision in reporting the data points and the failure to make meaningful comparisons between the two charts limit the effectiveness of the response. To improve, focus on accurately transcribing data points and grouping information logically to highlight key relationships.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and sometimes mechanical or misused, such as the abrupt transition 'Where in 2nd line chart'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'simultaneously', 'furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'increase', 'rose', and 'reach'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'most percentage' instead of 'highest percentage' and 'continues rose' which is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and precision in your lexical choices prevents a higher score. Try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'plateau', 'gradual', or 'significant', to demonstrate a better command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The multiple line chart show', 'the percentage of the refrigerator is 0%') and incorrect tense usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors that impede clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tenses are used consistently when describing past data. Proofreading for small errors like articles ('the' 2nd line chart) will also help improve your accuracy.
