Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers all parts of the task well. You have identified the main trends for both appliance ownership and housework time. The data is accurately reported, and you have made relevant comparisons, such as the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and time spent on housework. To reach a higher band, ensure that the 'overview' is more distinct and comprehensive. While you included an overview at the end, it is slightly repetitive of the body paragraphs. A more analytical summary of the overall trends (e.g., the general decline in housework time as appliance ownership became universal) would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the appliance data from the housework data. Cohesive devices such as 'Notably', 'In contrast', 'Meanwhile', and 'Additionally' are used appropriately to guide the reader. However, the transition between the body paragraphs and the final summary could be smoother. The final paragraph starts with a lowercase 'overall', which is a minor mechanical error that slightly affects the flow. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'soared from 0% to 100%', 'rose steadily', and 'complex fluctuations' are well-chosen and accurate. You avoid repetition by using varied verbs to describe trends. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items related to data description, such as 'a downward trend', 'a plateau', or 'a marginal increase'. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for precise reporting of the figures provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free, and your control of tense is consistent with the historical data provided. There are a few minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as the lowercase 'overall' at the start of the final paragraph and the hyphenation in '1920-1960'. These do not impede communication. To aim for a higher band, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as participle clauses (e.g., 'Having increased gradually, the ownership rate...'), to demonstrate greater flexibility.
