Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided data to support your descriptions. You covered all three appliances and the housework time trend. However, the response lacks a clear overview paragraph, which is essential for a Band 7 or higher. Additionally, some data points are slightly inaccurate or confusingly phrased, such as the claim that the washing machine was 'on the top most' in 1920 when the chart shows it starting at 0%. To improve, ensure you group information logically and provide a concise summary of the overall trends in the introduction or a separate paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'then after', 'by 1920', 'from 1980 to 2019'). The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the lack of a clear overview makes the progression of ideas feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data comparison.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, including terms like 'ownership', 'significant growth', and 'declined'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'sky rocket growth', 'rowth' (spelling), and 'get surge declined'. Some collocations are unnatural, which occasionally forces the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. Increasing your range of precise verbs and adverbs to describe trends would help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'it shown the steady growth'), missing articles, and punctuation errors. The sentence structure is often repetitive, relying heavily on simple clauses. To reach a higher band, focus on reducing errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or participial phrases, to improve the flow and accuracy of your writing.
