Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main trends in appliance ownership and housework hours. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, stating the refrigerator was at 0% in 1920 is correct, but the description of the washing machine's fluctuations is confusing and lacks precision. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated. To improve, ensure that data points are cited accurately and that the relationship between the two charts is highlighted more clearly, rather than just listing figures chronologically.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'In 1920' and 'in 1940' are used mechanically to start sentences, and there is a lack of linking words to connect ideas within paragraphs. The progression of information is somewhat disjointed, particularly in the paragraph describing appliance ownership, where the sequence of events feels like a list of data points rather than a cohesive analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs such as 'owned', 'climb', 'grow', and 'fall'. There are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'electrical applications' (should be 'appliances') and 'remained study' (should be 'remained steady'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied verbs and adverbs to describe trends, such as 'soared', 'plummeted', or 'gradually increased'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('ownership... are increased'), article usage ('the refrigerator at 0%'), and tense consistency. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. While the errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction, proper verb tenses for historical data, and consistent subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
