Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered both the appliance ownership and the housework hours, making relevant comparisons. However, the report could be improved by grouping the data more effectively. For instance, instead of listing every data point for refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and washing machines separately, you could highlight the overall trend of appliance saturation versus the decline in housework hours. This would demonstrate a higher level of analytical skill. The inclusion of specific data points is accurate and supports your summary well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'After that' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical, relying on simple chronological sequencing. To reach a higher band, try to vary your cohesive devices and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the data, which helps the reader follow your argument easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'soared', 'fluctuated', and 'marginally' effectively. There is some repetition of phrases like 'percentage of households with', which could be avoided by using synonyms or rephrasing. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the information clearly, it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns to describe trends, such as 'witnessed a steady climb' or 'experienced a sharp decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your grammar is generally accurate. There are a few minor errors, such as 'in1940' (missing space) and 'percentage of household owning' (should be 'households'). These errors do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, aim to use a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as relative clauses or participle phrases, to describe the trends more fluidly. Your control over punctuation is generally good, and the meaning is always clear to the reader.
