Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for both appliances and housework hours. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, integrated comparison between the two datasets. For instance, while you mention the decline in housework, you do not explicitly link this to the rise in appliance ownership, which is a key feature of the data. The description of the appliance trends is accurate, but the reporting of figures is occasionally imprecise, such as describing the refrigerator trend as 'plunged to 90%', when the data actually shows a rise. More careful selection of data points would improve the clarity of your summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into a logical structure with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive. Phrases like 'where' are used incorrectly to start sentences, which disrupts the flow of ideas. Paragraphing is present, but the transition between the appliance data and the housework data is abrupt. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') to connect your sentences and paragraphs more fluidly, ensuring that the relationship between the two charts is clearly articulated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the trends, such as 'incline', 'decline', 'gradual increase', and 'maintaining the position'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'plunged' is used to describe an upward trend, which is incorrect. Additionally, there are minor errors in phrasing, such as 'house work in house holds'. To improve, focus on using more precise verbs for trends (e.g., 'soared' for a sharp increase) and ensure that your vocabulary is used in the correct context to convey the intended meaning accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'In chart one'), subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'This graph illustrate'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'where number of hours of work in 1920 from 50% dropped to 20%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence structure and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be beneficial.
