Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task well. You have identified the main trends for both appliance ownership and housework hours, and you have made relevant comparisons between the categories. The overview is clear and highlights the key inverse relationship between the rise in appliance ownership and the decline in housework time. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with complete accuracy; for instance, the refrigerator ownership starting at 0% in 1920 is a key detail that you captured well. The report is well-structured and provides a clear summary of the provided data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the introduction, overview, and specific data details. Cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'Additionally', and 'However' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the information is easy to follow, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of the trends presented in the charts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'variations', 'surged', 'plummeted', and 'fluctuated' to describe the data trends. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'the number of hours of household', which should be 'hours spent on housework'. Expanding your repertoire of descriptive adverbs and nouns would help elevate the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the majority of your sentences are clear, there are some grammatical errors that slightly impede the flow. For example, 'which was then showed a slight decline' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'which then showed a slight decline'. Additionally, 'the number of hours of household' is awkward phrasing. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally accurate. Focusing on verb tense consistency and avoiding unnecessary passive constructions will improve your accuracy.
