Student answer (Band 6.0)
The first chart compares the use of electrical appliances in household during the period of 1920 to 2019 whereas the other chart shows the proportion of hours spent on housework a week by a household during the period of 1920 to 2019.
Overall, use of Refrigerator has drastically increased over the years till 1980 which was then stable till 2019, meanwhile ratio of hours of housework per weak per household has decreased statistically over the years. With an increase to use of electrical appliance the number of hours spent in housework are relatively decreasing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the charts, including the trends for appliances and the inverse relationship with housework hours. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the saturation of refrigerators and the steady decline in housework hours. However, the analysis of the washing machine data is slightly inaccurate; you mentioned a decrease in 1980, but the chart shows a more complex fluctuation. Additionally, the description of the housework hours in 1960 as '20%' is a misinterpretation of the unit (hours, not percentage). To reach a higher band, ensure data points are cited with absolute precision and that units are correctly identified.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, moving from the appliances to the housework hours. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'which was then steady'. The transition between the appliance trends and the housework trends could be smoother to better highlight the comparison requested in the prompt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'drastically increased', 'proportion', and 'significantly'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'ratio of hours' (should be 'number of hours') and 'per weak' (spelling error). The phrase 'decreased statistically' is also misused in this context, as the data is descriptive rather than statistical. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure spelling is accurate throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'No refrigerator were used' (subject-verb agreement), 'increase to use of electrical appliance' (article usage), and '40% of house' (pluralization). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with comma usage. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
