Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the general trends of appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the report is marred by significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, stating that vacuum cleaner ownership increased to '990%' is a major error, and the description of the washing machine trend is confusing and contradicts the visual data. While the overview is present, the lack of precision in reporting the figures prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure that data points are transcribed accurately and that comparisons between the two graphs are more clearly linked to the overall trend.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the third paragraph where the flow of information becomes disjointed. The paragraphing is a positive feature, but the internal logic within paragraphs needs to be strengthened by using more varied and accurate linking words to connect the data points logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'incresed', 'decresed', 'vacum', and 'oeaked'. These errors, combined with awkward phrasing like 'peaked up' and 'used of incresed', indicate a lack of control over word choice and spelling. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic verbs and nouns and practice using more precise collocations to describe trends, such as 'witnessed a significant rise' instead of 'highly incresed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Subject-verb agreement is often incorrect, for example, 'The line graph illustrate' and 'They also shows'. Additionally, there are issues with tense consistency and article usage, such as 'in 1920 , only 40% of household of washing machine'. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing around commas. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tenses are used consistently when describing historical data.
