Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to complete the task as it is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. While you have identified the main trends—the increase in appliance ownership and the decrease in housework time—the description of the data is inconsistent. You mention specific percentages and timeframes, but the analysis lacks clarity and precision. For instance, stating that refrigerator ownership climbed to 90% in two decades is not fully supported by the visual data provided. To improve, ensure you cover all parts of the prompt, including the final data points, and provide a more accurate summary of the trends without leaving the response unfinished.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In general' and 'Turning to the details', but the transitions between specific data points are sometimes mechanical or confusing. For example, the shift between the refrigerator data and the washing machine data lacks a smooth link. To improve, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices to connect ideas more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, completed focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'climbed significantly', 'decline', and 'proportion'. However, there are issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'number of owners of electric appliances' is less natural than 'percentage of households with appliances'. Additionally, phrases like 'in tenure of 20 years' and 'came to stable percentage' are awkward. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic phrasing, such as 'remained stable' instead of 'came to stable percentage'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'illustrates about the changes' (should be 'illustrates the changes'), 'spent is household activities' (should be 'spent on household activities'), and 'for next years' (should be 'for the following years'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing data trends. Proofreading for basic grammatical slips will significantly improve your score.
