Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for the three appliances and the housework hours. You successfully highlighted the key features, such as the vacuum cleaner reaching 100% and the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. However, the analysis is slightly hindered by inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, stating the refrigerator was 'not introduced' in 1920 is factually incorrect based on the chart, which shows a starting percentage. Additionally, the description of the washing machine trend is slightly confusing. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are described with greater precision and that the overview clearly synthesizes the relationship between the two sets of data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the appliances, and a final paragraph for the housework hours. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'Subsequently' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For example, the sentence 'The trend didn't stopped here in 1980' is slightly disjointed. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother if you grouped the appliances more effectively or used more sophisticated linking phrases to compare the data points rather than listing them sequentially.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'electronic gadgets', 'housework hours', and 'drastically'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'pursuing daily housework' (instead of 'performing'), 'got some declination' (instead of 'declined'), and 'the craze continues' (which is too informal for an academic report). To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and avoiding informal or non-standard expressions. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and nouns related to trends would also help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('refrigerator was introduce', 'housework hours was'), tense inconsistencies ('didn't stopped', 'got decreased'), and missing articles. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on consistent verb tense usage, correct article placement, and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Proofreading for basic agreement errors would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
