Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends in appliance ownership and housework hours. You successfully highlighted the inverse relationship between the two datasets. However, the reporting of data is occasionally confusing. For instance, the description of the refrigerator trend in 1940 as being 'sharply developed of washing machine' is unclear and inaccurate based on the visual data. Additionally, some figures are presented in a way that makes the comparison difficult to follow. To improve, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that the relationships between the items are described more logically.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'similarly', and 'by contrast' to link ideas. However, the flow within the third paragraph is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing the appliances. For example, the sentence 'refrigerator was sharply developed of washing machine' lacks a clear logical connection. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each sentence builds clearly upon the previous one would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'continually', 'marginally', and 'universal'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'deep details' (should be 'greater detail'), 'virtually present' (should be 'virtually absent'), and 'dwell by even 2019'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are contextually appropriate for a formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'The two line graph illustrate' (subject-verb agreement error), 'percentage of washing machine' (missing article), and 'remained steadily' (incorrect adverb usage). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and the distinction between adjectives and adverbs.
