Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all key features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the rapid growth of refrigerator ownership with the slower growth of washing machines. However, the report could be improved by providing more precise data points for the final years and ensuring the overview is more integrated. The summary is clear, and the selection of information is appropriate for an Academic Task 1 response, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'Whilst', which help link the information. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the use of 'Whilst' at the beginning of the final paragraph is grammatically awkward. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two distinct datasets, which helps the reader navigate the information. Overall, the organization is clear and coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'declined', 'increased significantly', 'sharply', and 'downward trend'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'consumption of time' (time spent) and 'wasted in housework' (which is subjective and not supported by the data). Additionally, 'none' is used slightly awkwardly in the context of the refrigerator trend. While you attempt to use varied vocabulary, the range is sufficient but not particularly sophisticated or precise enough to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'which rise sharply' (should be 'rose'), '10hours' (missing space), and 'The trend for three household equipment varied' (equipment is uncountable). The sentence 'the refrigerator was owned by none in 1920 but it increased dramatically' is slightly awkward. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of error-free complex sentences would improve your score in this criterion.
