Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the content is incomplete; it only addresses the electrical appliances and completely ignores the second part of the prompt regarding the time spent on housework. The description of the data is also inaccurate and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. To improve, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed and provide a comprehensive summary of the data, including the second chart provided in the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is very short, making it difficult to demonstrate a range of cohesive devices. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore', the progression of ideas is disjointed. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the lack of a clear structure makes the information difficult to follow. To improve, ensure you have a clear introduction, a body paragraph for each main trend, and a concluding overview. Use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences and ideas more logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are errors in word choice, such as 'a information' (an article error) and 'lose upto 65 percent' (incorrect verb usage). The phrase 'increasing position' is also unnatural. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure you use articles and prepositions correctly. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will also help improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'percentage of washing machine which was to be found', and awkward phrasing like 'a information'. The sentence structures are relatively simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and article usage. Once you are comfortable with these, try to incorporate more complex structures like relative clauses or passive voice to describe the data more effectively.
