Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying the trends in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. However, the analysis is hampered by significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the claim that the washing machine reached 100% in 2019 is not supported by the typical interpretation of such charts, and the description of the 1940-1960 period is confusing. While the overview is present, it is poorly phrased and lacks clarity. The response would benefit from a more precise selection of data points to highlight the key trends rather than attempting to list every fluctuation, which leads to confusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'Moving further', but they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly. The internal structure of the sentences is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different appliances. The use of referencing is inconsistent, and the lack of clear signposting between the appliance data and the housework data makes the overall flow feel fragmented.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'time utilised on doing household chores' instead of 'time spent on housework', and 'affiancy' which appears to be a misspelling or misuse of a term. Spelling errors are also prevalent, including 'anazyling', 'throught', and 'Vace'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description and ensure that your spelling is accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the complex attempts are often marred by grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the line graphs tracks' and 'washing machine were 50%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and incorrect sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from achieving a higher score. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic errors would be highly beneficial.
