Student answer (Band 6.0)

These 2 line graphs illustrate the proportion in owning the electrical appliances such as washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner, and the time spent doing the housework in households in an unknown country from 1920 to 2019.

Overall, we are seeing an increasing trend in ownership of appliances, while witnessing a substantial decrease in the number of house required for house work.

Initially, refrigerators started from almost 0 percent in 1920, after that st significantly increased to 90 percent in 1960. The remaining 10% was covered till 1980 and stayed at 100% till 2019. Vacuum cleaners were at 30% in 1920, afterwards it climbed at 100% after 4 decades in 2000 and remained constant. While washing machines showed fluctuations in its line graph. It started at 40% and then increased to 70% in 1960, subsequently it lowered at near to 60% in 1980, then gradually placed between 70% and 80% in 2019.

In contrast to others, number of hour per week started from 50% and then lowered at 20% in 1960. After that it has not showed a significance loss in proportion of the work such as washing clothes, preparing meals and cleaning, it stayed in between of 20 and 10% from 1960 to 2019. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. You have successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons between the categories. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data points are described with greater precision. For instance, stating that housework hours started at '50%' is inaccurate, as the chart refers to hours per week, not a percentage. Additionally, the description of the washing machine trend is slightly confusing due to the phrasing 'gradually placed between 70% and 80%'. Overall, you have provided a clear overview and selected the most significant data points to support your summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group the information effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'afterwards', 'while', and 'In contrast to others' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'it' when referring to multiple subjects. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the appliances from the housework data. To reach a higher band, ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that the relationship between sentences is consistently clear.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'substantial decrease', and 'fluctuations'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'number of house required for house work' (should be 'hours') and 'significance loss' (should be 'significant'). The phrase 'placed between' is also not the most natural way to describe a trend on a line graph. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, more precise terminology related to data trends—such as 'plateaued', 'peaked', or 'remained steady'—would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'st significantly increased' (likely a typo), 'it lowered at near to 60%' (should be 'it fell to nearly 60%'), and 'it has not showed a significance loss'. Additionally, there are issues with preposition usage, such as 'reached at 10%' (should be 'reached 10%'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions with data will help improve your accuracy.
