Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for appliances and the decrease in housework hours. However, the analysis is marred by significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For example, the claim that the refrigerator started at 0% in 1920 and reached 100% by 1980 is not supported by the provided data, and the description of the washing machine trend is confusing and contradictory. Furthermore, the final paragraph is incomplete and irrelevant to the task, suggesting a lack of focus. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the data prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'Whereas', 'Meanwhile', 'Subsequently'), they are often used incorrectly or in a mechanical fashion. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the data points and the commentary. The final paragraph is disconnected from the rest of the essay, which disrupts the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'linear representation', 'time consume', 'boosting years by year', and '0percentum'. These errors occasionally impede communication, particularly when describing the trends. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands, as the writer relies on repetitive and sometimes non-standard phrasing to describe the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('it show', 'it remain'), tense usage ('it have seen'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are awkward or grammatically incomplete. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with errors in capitalization and sentence boundaries. These errors are frequent and often cause difficulty for the reader.
