Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear, accurate summary of the data. The description of the trends is often confusing or factually incorrect based on the provided charts (e.g., claiming 0% ownership in 1920 for all appliances or mentioning 'pandemics' which are not supported by the data). The overview is missing, and the information is presented in a disjointed manner. Key features, such as the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework hours, are mentioned but not clearly articulated or supported with accurate data points. The response lacks the analytical focus required for an Academic Task 1 report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inappropriate, such as the repetitive and incorrect use of 'on the other hand' to introduce new points that are not contrasting. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the relationship between the appliances and the time spent on housework. The overall structure does not effectively guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The range of vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'copmaring', 'vaccum', 'worers', 'sevral', 'whch') and word choice issues (e.g., 'foster of percentage', 'ratio should fell down'). The vocabulary used is basic and does not demonstrate the ability to describe trends or data points precisely. The language used is often informal and lacks the academic tone required for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. Sentence structures are simple and repetitive, with many run-on sentences or fragments. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, verb tense consistency, and punctuation. For example, 'there is 0 percentage becasuse as i see it was starting of that' is grammatically incoherent. The lack of control over basic sentence construction significantly impacts the clarity of the report.
