Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends, the analysis is somewhat superficial. You mention that the refrigerator usage 'sustains the height' and the washing machine 'exhibits fluctuations', but the data points are often inaccurate or poorly described (e.g., stating the refrigerator starts at 0% in 1920, which is not supported by the graph). The overview is present but lacks clarity regarding the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and housework time. To improve, ensure you accurately report data points and provide a more comprehensive summary of the key features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. For example, 'Paradoxically however' is used to introduce the final paragraph, but the transition is slightly awkward. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the sequence of events is difficult to follow due to poor sentence structure. The progression of ideas is present but lacks the logical flow required for higher bands. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and contains several inaccuracies. You use 'percentile' incorrectly when referring to percentages, and 'hight' is a spelling error for 'height'. Phrases like 're-gain it hight' and 'surpases the refrigrator' show a lack of precision. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'fluctuations' and 'uniform increasing trends', the overall range is restricted. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends (e.g., 'plateaued', 'surged', 'declined') and ensure that your spelling and word choice are accurate throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('refrigerator consumption gradually raise', 'washing machine surpases'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty or contain punctuation errors. For instance, 'washing machine surpases the refrigrator by 40% slightly surge to 70% in 1960 the exhibits fluctuations teh regain it hight in 2019' is a run-on sentence that is difficult to parse. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
