Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the description of the data is incomplete; the response cuts off abruptly mid-sentence, failing to cover all the information presented in the charts. While there is an attempt to identify main features and trends, the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual inaccuracies regarding the data points (e.g., describing a 'surge' when the graph shows a decline). The overview is present but lacks the necessary depth to fully summarize the trends across the entire period. To improve, ensure all data points are covered and the response is of sufficient length.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'In beginning', but they are often used incorrectly or in a mechanical fashion. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt ending makes it difficult to follow the flow of information. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, completed focus that contributes to the overall summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'account of the time use' instead of 'amount of time spent' and 'shown slow increment' instead of 'showed a gradual increase'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'proportion' and 'dramatically', but these are often misused or lack precision. Spelling errors, such as 'begns', also detract from the quality of the writing. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to describing trends and data, and ensure words are used in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with verb tenses ('it had 40 percentage', 'it begins'), subject-verb agreement, and article usage. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty or incomplete. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent tense usage when describing historical data, and proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization errors.
