Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for both appliances and housework hours. You have successfully selected key features, such as the saturation of refrigerators and vacuum cleaners, and made relevant comparisons between the two charts. However, the analysis is slightly hindered by some inaccuracies in data reporting. For example, stating that the washing machine 'experienced slight downfall in 1960' is not clearly supported by the visual data, and the description of the refrigerator reaching 100% in 1960 is slightly imprecise. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that the relationship between the rise in appliances and the decline in housework is explicitly highlighted.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Moving into more details', and 'Furthermore' to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences in the second body paragraph is abrupt, and the use of referencing could be improved to avoid repetitive sentence structures. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion would benefit from a wider variety of linking words and more sophisticated referencing to connect the trends in appliances to the reduction in housework time.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'alteration', 'negligible', and 'inclined'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'how much time spend while doing domestic works' (should be 'time spent doing housework') and 'the percentage of washing machine was inclined' (should be 'the percentage of households with a washing machine increased'). These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'inclined' or 'trend' when describing data changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'had showed the increasing trend' (incorrect tense), 'the the hours' (repetition), and 'There was fell with 10' (incorrect verb form and preposition). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors in verb tense and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that passive and active voice constructions are used accurately when describing statistical data.
