Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the trends for the appliances and the housework hours, the comparison between the two sets of data is underdeveloped. For instance, you mention that housework hours fell due to appliances, but you do not explicitly link the specific appliance growth periods to the corresponding decline in housework hours. The description of the data is also slightly inaccurate in places, such as stating the washing machine ownership increased 'by 40% to around 75%', which is mathematically unclear. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview and use data points more precisely to support your comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for this task. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'In the other graph' and 'Further there is also' are used to transition, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs is often disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'that there was a second line graph' in the introduction, which is redundant. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next to create a more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic verbs like 'increased', 'become', and 'shown'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'dramatically change of refrigerator ownership' (should be 'dramatic change in') and 'slightly downfall' (should be 'slight decline'). The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is some repetition of basic terms. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for trends, such as 'soared', 'plateaued', or 'fluctuated', and ensure correct preposition usage when describing data changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'percentage of household with electrical appliances' (should be 'households'), 'it take lot of time' (should be 'it took a lot of time'), and 'dur to electrical appliances' (spelling error). There are also issues with tense consistency, as you switch between present and past tenses when describing historical data. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
