The charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The char illustrates change in percentage of household owning three types of electrical appliances and the amount of time spend on housework per week in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Overall, ownership of all three appliances increased substantially over the period, with refrigerator and vacuum cleaner eventually becoming universal. In contrast, the amount of time spend on housework declined steadily and dramatically.

In 1920, around 40% of household owned washing machine, while the figure for vacuum cleaner and refrigerator were approximately 30% and 0% respectively. Ownership of refrigerator then rose sharply, reaching about 90% by 1960 and 100% by 1980. Vacuum cleaner ownership also increased steadily, from 30% in 1920 to around 70% in1960 and 90% in 1980, before reaching 100% in 2000. Washing machine ownership grew more gradually, despite some fluctuation, rising from 40% in 1920 to 60% in 1940 and 70% in 1960. It eventually reaching 75% in 2019.

The average amount of time spent doing housework followed a opposite trend. In 1920, households spent about 50 hours per week on housework. This figure fell to approximately 20 hours in 1960. It then declined further to around 15 hours in 1980 and remain just 10 hours by the year 2019. Thus the increase number of electrical appliances result in substantial reduction in the time required for household chores.
