Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the trends for the three appliances and the housework hours. However, there are inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you state the washing machine was the highest in 1920, whereas the graph shows the vacuum cleaner starting higher. Additionally, you describe the housework hours as '50%' in 1920, but the axis clearly denotes 'hours per week', not a percentage. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in reporting data points and the misinterpretation of the units of measurement prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully read the labels on both axes before drafting your summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into three paragraphs, which is a logical structure for this task. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'on the other hand' and 'due to', but the flow is somewhat mechanical. The transition between the description of appliances and the housework hours is abrupt. Furthermore, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'it reached approx 70% only which is least from all three', where the connection to the previous sentence could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear logical progression between sentences would enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic descriptors like 'huge spike' and 'touched its peak'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'electronic item' (should be 'electrical appliance') and 'per weak' (a spelling error for 'week'). The range of vocabulary is limited, and the repetition of words like 'reached' and 'started' indicates a need for a broader range of synonyms to describe trends, such as 'soared', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('percentage... have three', 'refrigerator... have a huge spike') and tense inconsistencies ('Washing machine on 1920 was... it slightly increase'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage for historical data is essential for improvement.
