Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main trends for both appliances and housework hours. However, the report is incomplete as it ends abruptly in the final sentence, failing to provide a full summary of the data. While the key features are identified, the lack of a conclusion and the incomplete final sentence mean that the task is not fully addressed. The overview is present but could be more clearly separated from the body paragraphs to highlight the main trends more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the flow is interrupted by the incomplete final sentence. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In contrast' and 'In 1920', but the transition between the description of appliances and the housework hours is somewhat abrupt. The logical progression is hindered by the sudden termination of the text, which affects the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with terms like 'significant growth', 'remarkable growth', and 'surge' used correctly. There are some minor errors, such as 'hourse' instead of 'hours'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the sophistication and variety required for a higher band score. The repetition of 'showed' and 'demonstrated' suggests a limited range of reporting verbs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The line graphs demonstrates' (subject-verb agreement) and 'most of households' (missing article). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with a space before the comma in 'In contrast ,the'. The incomplete final sentence makes it impossible to judge the accuracy of the concluding structure. Frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation are present throughout the text.
