Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by summarizing the provided charts, but the analysis is limited. While you identify the main trends, the description of the data is often imprecise. For example, stating that the washing machine 'gradually rose' and the refrigerator 'started from 0' is accurate, but the lack of specific data points (e.g., percentages or years) makes the summary less effective. You have identified the main features, but the comparison between the appliances and the housework hours could be more clearly linked to show the inverse relationship. To improve, ensure you include specific figures from the charts to support your observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To begin with' and 'On the other hand' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. For instance, the transition between the appliances and the housework hours is abrupt. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as when you refer to 'the ratio' without specifying which data set you are discussing. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words will help create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'ratio' and 'increased', which limits the sophistication of your writing. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'replacement in ownership' and 'instantly down', which do not accurately convey the intended meaning. To improve, try to use a wider range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' (e.g., 'soared', 'plummeted', 'fluctuated') and focus on using words in their correct context to ensure your meaning is clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'percentage of household... illustrate'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'were start'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'the ratio of using of washing machine'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and reducing errors in tense and word order. Proofreading for these common slips will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
