Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all key features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours. You successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons between the categories. However, the report contains some inaccuracies in data interpretation, such as stating that 'the whole country' was using refrigerators by 1980, whereas the graph shows a plateau at 100%. Additionally, the description of the washing machine trend is slightly confusing regarding the specific percentages and timeframes. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that the overview clearly synthesizes the relationship between the rise in appliances and the decrease in housework time.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data sets. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'While' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For instance, the transition between the appliance data and the housework data is functional but could be more sophisticated. The use of referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to repetitive sentence structures. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'ownership', 'households', 'significantly', and 'invested'. However, there are several spelling errors ('continues' instead of 'continuous', 'decerised' instead of 'decreased', 'hole' instead of 'whole', 'constand' instead of 'constant') and word choice issues that detract from the quality of the writing. While the meaning remains clear, these errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering the spelling of common academic terms and using more precise collocations to describe trends, such as 'upward trajectory' or 'sharp decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('vacuum cleaners was used', '90% of the citizen were already owned') and article usage. There are also issues with tense consistency and preposition usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, you need to focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that tenses are used consistently when describing historical data.
