Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, but it fails to address the second part of the prompt: the amount of time spent doing housework. By omitting this data entirely, the response is incomplete. Furthermore, the description of the trends is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that the refrigerator increased to 100% and then 'on-going' is unclear, and the claim that the vacuum cleaner reached 100% is not supported by the visual data provided. The overview is also weak, as it focuses only on the appliances and fails to synthesize the overall trends effectively. To improve, ensure all data sets are addressed and trends are described with greater precision.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is often illogical. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'In detail' and 'Furthermore', which do not always connect the sentences logically. The referencing is also problematic; for instance, the phrase 'the fiction of washing machine' is confusing and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the body paragraph is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the three appliances over the specified time periods.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of word-choice errors that impede clarity, such as 'fiction of washing machine' (likely meant 'fraction' or 'percentage') and 'ratio of refrigerator was firstly increase'. The student relies on repetitive phrasing like 'the percentage of... was increased' and 'accounted to increase'. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise verbs for describing trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', 'surged') and avoid repeating the same sentence structures throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often hinder communication. There are consistent issues with verb tense and voice, such as 'the percentage of refrigerator was increased' (passive voice used incorrectly) and 'the ratio of washing machine was lower'. Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex sentence structures, these are frequently faulty, leading to awkward phrasing. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and ensuring that the tense used matches the time frame described in the prompt.
