Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the claim that 100% of people owned refrigerators by 2019 is an over-generalization, and the description of the trends is often imprecise. The report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the relationship between appliance ownership and the reduction in housework hours. While the key data points are mentioned, the lack of precise comparisons and the inclusion of inaccurate interpretations prevent this from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant trends and comparing the two charts more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'From 1920 to 2019', but they are often applied mechanically. The transition between the two charts is abrupt, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the phrase 'Ather that' (likely meaning 'After that'). The progression of ideas is present but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'people', 'used', and 'have'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and non-standard collocations, such as 'householding of washing machine' and 'vacuum clearing'. The student attempts to describe the data, but the lack of precise terminology (e.g., 'fluctuating', 'upward trend', 'significant decline') limits the ability to convey information accurately. To improve, the student should learn topic-specific vocabulary related to data description and work on using more varied and precise adjectives and verbs to describe trends and percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with verb tenses ('had used', 'are mostly used'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction ('there were not any person who have not washing'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some attempts at complex ones that are often faulty. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring consistent tense usage, and reducing errors in articles and pluralization.
