Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the task is incomplete, as the final sentence is cut off mid-thought. While you have identified some key features, such as the trends for refrigerators and washing machines, the analysis is superficial. You have not provided a clear overview of the main trends, and the data reporting is inconsistent, with some figures being inaccurate (e.g., stating the washing machine is the least used in 2019 when it is actually the most used). To improve, ensure you cover all data points, provide a clear summary, and meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks logical paragraphing, consisting of a single, underdeveloped block of text. Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the flow of information mechanical and disjointed. For example, the transition between the description of appliances and the housework hours is abrupt and lacks a linking phrase. The referencing is also unclear; the use of 'they' in the final sentence is ambiguous as it does not clearly refer back to the 'number of hours'. To improve, organize your response into clear paragraphs (Introduction, Overview, and Body Paragraphs) and use a wider range of cohesive devices to connect your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'usage' and 'appliance'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the chart describe' (should be 'describes') and 'least usage household product'. The range is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'plateau', 'dramatic decline', or 'significant growth', and ensure correct word forms are used throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the clarity of the message. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The chart describe', 'they decreases'), incorrect preposition usage ('between 1920 to 2019' should be 'between 1920 and 2019'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with little evidence of the complex structures required for higher bands. The incomplete final sentence also demonstrates a lack of control over sentence construction. Focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and expanding your sentence variety by using complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
