Student answer (Band 5.5)

The chart provided illustrates the proportion of houses with electrical appliances: Washing machine, Refrigerator and Vacuum cleaner between 1920 and 2019 while the other line graph denotes the number of hours spend for housework in a week over the same period.

Overall, electrical appliances had gained popularity and experienced a significant growth in owning electrical appliances. Contararly, number of hours spend for household had witnessed a dramatic downfall trend.

In 1920, there were no houses with Refrigerator however, this experienced a rapid sore with 100% owning it. Similarly, Vcuum cleaner accounted for a steep increase and reached the maximum in 2019 with no houses without Vacuum cleaner. At the beginning, washing machine held the most popularity but it rose to 60% in 1960 and declined marginally in 1980 but increased to approximately 65% in 2019.

It is clear that the household hours declined dramatically with the increase

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. You have successfully highlighted the key features, such as the rise in appliance ownership and the decline in housework hours, but the lack of a full conclusion and the unfinished final sentence mean the task is not fully addressed. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis and provide a full summary of the data, ensuring you meet the length requirement to avoid a penalty.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow and coherence of the final section. You have used some cohesive devices like 'Similarly' and 'At the beginning', but the overall structure is undermined by the incomplete nature of the text. To improve, focus on ensuring that each paragraph is fully developed and that the transition between ideas is smooth and complete.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have used some relevant vocabulary related to the task, such as 'proportion', 'significant growth', and 'dramatic downfall'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'Contararly' (Contrary), 'sore' (soar), and 'Vcuum' (Vacuum). Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'number of hours spend for household'. To reach a higher band, focus on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations, such as 'time spent on housework' rather than 'hours spend for household'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'number of hours spend for housework' should be 'number of hours spent on housework', and 'no houses without Vacuum cleaner' is slightly awkward. There are also issues with verb tense consistency and article usage. The unfinished sentence at the end also prevents a full assessment of your grammatical control. To improve, proofread your work to correct basic subject-verb agreement and tense errors.
