Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the decline in housework hours and the rise in appliance ownership. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. For instance, the description of the trends is often vague, such as 'number of hours was almost same' or 'the two appliances was at their maximum'. The report fails to clearly distinguish between the two distinct datasets (appliances vs. hours) in a way that highlights the inverse relationship effectively. While the main trends are identified, the lack of specific data points and the imprecise reporting of the trends limit the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Commencing with' and 'Furthermore' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. For example, the sentence 'whereas it continue starts declined and approach to 15 hours' is difficult to follow due to poor linking. Referencing is also inconsistent, making it hard to track which appliance or trend is being discussed at times. The progression of ideas is present but lacks logical smoothness.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'number of house per week' instead of 'hours of housework' and 'previous years' used incorrectly to describe a point on a graph. The student struggles to use precise terminology for describing trends, relying on basic verbs like 'starts' or 'show'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the persistent errors in word formation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('the two appliances was', 'it continue starts declined'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, such as the final sentence of the second paragraph. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of control over basic grammar. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods.
