Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided charts. However, the information is presented in a fragmented and often inaccurate manner. For instance, the claim that washing machine usage 'rapidly decrease[d] in 1980 to 2019' contradicts the likely visual data of such a trend. The overview is poorly constructed, failing to highlight the most significant trends clearly. While the response covers both charts, the lack of precision in reporting data points and the inclusion of confusing, inaccurate descriptions of the trends mean the task is only partially addressed. More focus on selecting key features and comparing them accurately is required.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as 'starting with the information' and 'commencing with the rest of the information,' which feel forced and unnatural. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the data and the commentary. The sentences are often disjointed, and the lack of effective transitions between ideas hinders the overall flow of the report. The structure is present but does not facilitate a smooth reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'use,' 'things,' and 'people.' There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'citizen invest own time in electrical things' and 'ratio is drop down.' The student struggles to use precise terminology related to data description, such as 'percentage,' 'proportion,' or 'trend.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with the necessary precision for an Academic Task 1 response, often leading to ambiguity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'charts illustrates,' 'ratio is drop down'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack necessary prepositions and auxiliary verbs. While there is an attempt to use a variety of sentence structures, the lack of control over basic grammar means that error-free sentences are rare. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with misplaced periods and missing commas throughout the text.
