Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the charts, including the trends for appliance ownership and the decline in housework time. The overview is present and highlights the main trends effectively. However, the analysis is slightly mechanical, and some data points are described with minor inaccuracies (e.g., stating the washing machine reached 73% in 2019 when the chart shows a different trend). While the main features are selected, the comparison between the two graphs could be more explicitly linked to show the inverse relationship between appliance ownership and time spent on housework. Overall, it addresses the requirements of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data sets. Cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'meanwhile', and 'in comparison' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and punctuation errors, such as the missing conjunctions or incorrect comma placement in 'Looking at the figure that , washing machine'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more sophisticated to improve the overall readability and logical flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use descriptive verbs like 'peaked', 'dipped', and 'fluctuation'. However, there are several spelling errors ('applianes', 'flactuation', 'maintian') and some awkward word choices, such as 'suddenly become more popular' and 'peaked up'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, the frequent spelling mistakes and lack of precision in word choice prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations for describing data trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the' refrigerator), subject-verb agreement issues ('The 1st line graph illustrate'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and misplaced commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limits the score. Increasing the number of error-free sentences and improving control over complex structures will be essential for reaching a higher band.
