Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While the main features of the charts are identified, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the washing machine trend is inaccurate, as the data shows a steady increase rather than a decrease in 1980. Furthermore, the response lacks a clear overview or summary of the relationship between the two charts, which is essential for a high band score. The data points are mentioned, but the comparison between the appliances and the reduction in housework hours is not fully developed or integrated effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the discussion of appliances and the housework hours is abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow of ideas between sentences could be improved to create a more logical progression. While the paragraphing is sufficient, the overall coherence is hindered by the lack of sophisticated linking words and a cohesive structure that connects the two charts more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. Phrases like 'modern science elements' and 'downfall' are not the most appropriate choices for a formal report. There is some repetition of basic terms, and the range of vocabulary is limited. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to trends and data, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'significant decline', rather than relying on simple descriptive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'The given graphs depicts' (subject-verb agreement) and 'Using of washing machines' (incorrect noun phrase). The sentence structure is relatively simple, and there are issues with prepositions and articles, such as 'within a 100 year'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors and the lack of complex sentence structures limit the score. You should aim to vary your sentence structures and proofread carefully to correct basic agreement and article errors.
