Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify the general trends, the analysis is superficial. You mention the percentages for 1920 and 2019 but fail to describe the progression or identify key intermediate points. Furthermore, the description of the second chart is vague and lacks specific data points (e.g., the decline in hours spent on housework). To improve, you must provide a more detailed overview, include specific data from the charts, and ensure the response is long enough to fully develop your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. It is written as a single block of text rather than using paragraphs to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. Cohesive devices are largely absent, making the flow of ideas feel disjointed. For example, the transition between the two charts is abrupt. To improve, use clear paragraphing and linking words such as 'in contrast', 'furthermore', or 'consequently' to guide the reader through your comparison of the two charts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'people buy' and 'doing housework'. There is also a lack of precision; for instance, 'doing a few work' is grammatically incorrect and imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'ownership rates', 'significant decline', 'fluctuated', or 'dramatically increased'. Avoid repeating the same nouns and verbs throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'their is a totally different' (should be 'there is a significant difference'), 'people doing housework' (missing auxiliary verbs), and 'not doing housework with him' (incorrect pronoun usage). The sentence structures are simple and lack variety. To improve, focus on using correct verb tenses for describing past data and ensure you include necessary auxiliary verbs and prepositions. Aim to incorporate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures to demonstrate better control.
