Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, identifying key trends in appliance ownership. However, the response is incomplete as it cuts off abruptly while discussing the housework hours. Because the second part of the prompt (housework hours) is not fully addressed or summarized, the response fails to provide a complete overview of the data. To improve, ensure all data sets are analyzed and the conclusion is fully articulated. The initial overview is clear, but the lack of completion significantly impacts the overall task fulfillment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'Regarding'. However, the flow is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a concluding summary or a finished analysis of the second data set makes the progression feel disjointed. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that transitions between the two distinct data sets are more fluid and logically connected.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'substantially', 'gradual decline', and 'upward trend' used correctly. There are several spelling errors, such as 'proprtion', 'appiances', 'cleanrer', and 'percenatage', which detract from the quality of the writing. While the range is sufficient to convey the main points, the repeated spelling mistakes and occasional awkward phrasing (e.g., 'time experienced gradual decline') limit the score. Focus on proofreading for common spelling errors and using more precise collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('households who own washing machine were 40%'), missing articles ('in 1920 there was almost no refrigerator'), and tense inconsistencies ('all household had owned one'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high enough to cause some distraction for the reader. Increasing control over basic sentence construction is essential.
