Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graphs illustrate the information about the ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spend on houshold works in a nation from 1920 to 2019.

Fluctuations was noticed in the percentage of households with washing machines which was 70 in the 1960 and it declined to nearly 62 percent in 1980 and reached at approximately 73 percent in the end year. The proportion of households with refrigerator increased rapidly after1920 and accounted at peak in 1980 and remained same till the end year.

Moving towards the further information, the per centum of housholds with vacuum cleaner was 30 in 1920 and after 1920, it raised gradually and reached at 100 percent between 2000 and 2019. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for both appliances and housework hours. You successfully highlighted the key features, such as the rise in appliance ownership and the inverse decline in housework time. However, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the relationship between the two datasets. While you mention the trends, a more cohesive summary at the beginning or end would better highlight the overall correlation between increased technology and reduced labor. Some data points, such as the specific percentages for the washing machine in 1960, are included, but the analysis could be more precise by comparing the rates of change more explicitly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of information. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moving towards', and 'Overall' to structure the response. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between the appliance data and the housework data could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion, but the internal cohesion within the body paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the trends more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe trends (e.g., 'upward trend', 'downward trend', 'declined', 'increased rapidly'). However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'per centum' instead of 'percentage', and 'accounted at peak' which is not standard collocation. Spelling errors like 'houshold', 'refgrigerator', and 'housholds' also occur. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring accurate spelling. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, but it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Fluctuations was noticed', 'percentage of household was') and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'reached at approximately'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
